Public Panel Results - After the Debates

Pre the recent debates, Gilles Duceppe’s profile had been shifting towards the idea generation roles, Resource Investigator and Plant. That changed dramatically post the debates. We now see Duceppe’s Shaper role growing dramatically, from 20.7% to 25.7%. He demonstrated aggressive, challenging behaviour in the debates and this is clearly showing up in the observer inputs we are receiving from the public.

Gilles Duceppe’s profile shifted, with the two “ideas focused” roles, Resource Investigator and Plant, growing at the expense of all the other roles. A close examination of the words in his latest profile shows that he has come to be viewed by our readers as being more aggressive, manipulative and not interested in others.

The public’s view of Gilles Duceppe is very close to that of the experts. The public profile shows that his top role by a wide margin is Shaper (SH). The remainder of his strong roles fall into the “thinking” category of the Belbin system. This is an indicator of someone who is very cerebral in their approach to leadership. One of his assets is his ability to weigh up the options and choose a well-thought-out course of action. With his independent outlook he is also well placed to come up with new and original ideas. This means that he is suited to making his mark in the arena in which he operates where the problems are complex and difficult. The only significant difference between the experts’ and the public’s opinion relates to the Plant (PL) role (creative, imaginative, original). The experts see Duceppe as being much stronger in the PL role than the public do.

Gilles Duceppe’s profile suggests he has a strong sense of direction and ideas of his own. He likes producing ideas and putting them into operation. He is likely to be very directive in his management of others and may appear authoritarian on occasions. With his role combinations, he may need to discipline himself to ensure he gives adequate scope to his advisors and staff. He may be guilty of attempting to do too much on his own. Perhaps his most distinguishing feature would be his reluctance to go along with the multitude. He would find it easier than most to take a view that is contrary to the majority opinion.

He should avoid any tendency to surround himself exclusively with people who are as cerebral as he is.  That would reinforce any tendency he may have to over-analyze. He would be wise to make sure that he chooses advisors who are practical and who are willing to work on issues that may be important but which he is likely to find tedious.
