Public Panel Results - After the Debates

It seems we know who Jack Layton is in terms of his team role profile. On this page we display four different profiles on him, each of them almost identical to the other. Unlike the other leaders there has been an almost complete consistency in profiles taken at different times for Layton.

His profiles suggest that his operating style is in the classic entrepreneurial mould. He has a good deal of outward-looking drive and should be at his best working in a busy social environment where his readiness to interact and if necessary to challenge others can make its mark. The public also agreed with the experts on him having a fairly strong Coordinator role. Strength in this role indicates an ability to bring the best out of people and to be broad in outlook. Layton is seen as caring and dedicated.

This consistency of branding should help the NDP on October 14th.

Jack Layton’s profile stayed virtually identical to the ones we saw early in September. It did show some solidifying of his roles of Shaper with words like hard driving, which were already very highly chosen, showing up even more strongly in his latest profile.

The public are in agreement that Jack Layton’s profile is that of a "go-getter". His operating style is in the classic entrepreneurial mould. He has an affinity for knowing how to react in fast-moving situations. With a good deal of outward-looking drive he is well placed to cope with pressure. He should be at his best working in a busy social environment where his readiness to interact and if necessary to challenge others can make its mark. His basic personal qualities are often linked with charisma. The public also agreed with the experts on him having a fairly strong Coordinator role. Strength in this role indicates an ability to bring the best out of people and to be broad in outlook. Layton is seen as caring and dedicated.

The public, like the experts, would predict that cautiousness is not built into his profile. If managed properly his boldness can be a strong asset. That is how he is likely to achieve results. His high work-rate means that he needs to face a wide range of challenges. So it is important that he should avoid environments that slow him down or restrict his scope. This is probably not a problem in his current role.

Layton needs to be careful to heed the counsel of his advisors. This idea is reinforced by the fact he, like Stephen Harper, is not seen as being impartial. His tendency to be impatient or headstrong may run into difficulties working with his advisors. But this very much depends on their team roles.
